FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about bridal makeup and about the course.
Bridal makeup
When should I have my bridal makeup trial?
Have it 4–8 weeks before the wedding. That’s close enough that your skin will be similar, and early enough to try a second time if you need to.
How long does bridal makeup take?
Allow 45–60 minutes for the bride, including false lashes, and 30–40 minutes for each person in the bridal party. Finish the bride 30–45 minutes before the first photos.
How do I stop my makeup coming off when I cry?
Use eyeshadow primer, waterproof or tubing mascara, and a waterproof gel liner. Consider skipping mascara on the lower lashes. Keep cotton buds and micellar water in your touch-up kit.
What is flashback and how do I avoid it?
Flashback is a white cast in flash photos, caused by some sunscreens and setting powders reflecting the flash. Apply SPF early so it settles, use a finely milled powder close to your skin tone, and always test with a flash photo at your trial.
Should my bridal makeup be heavier than normal?
Not heavier. More defined. Use thin, well-set layers of base, then add a little extra definition with contour, brows, liner and lashes so your features show up in photos.
Which lipstick lasts longest for a wedding?
Any lipstick lasts longer with the right technique. Fill the whole lip with liner, apply lipstick, blot, dust powder through a tissue and apply a second layer. Avoid gloss all over the lips.
How much does bridal makeup cost?
Prices vary a lot by location, the artist’s experience and what’s included, such as a trial, lashes, travel and staying for touch-ups. Ask for an itemised quote. Doing your own makeup costs only the products you buy.
Should I hire a bridal makeup artist or do my own makeup?
A professional brings experience with long wear and photography, and takes the pressure off on the morning. Doing your own saves money and keeps the look true to you, as long as you practise it at least twice. Our course is designed for both.
