Natural Bridal Makeup: How to Get a Soft, Glowing Wedding Look
Updated

“Natural” is the most requested bridal makeup look, and the most misunderstood. Natural bridal makeup isn’t less makeup. It’s makeup that looks like skin, with just enough definition that your features don’t disappear in photos. Think of it as soft glam’s quieter sister.
The base: skin, but better
- Spend your effort on prep: hydration, a smoothing primer and a lightweight long-wear foundation.
- Apply foundation only where you need it, usually the centre of the face, and blend it out to nothing.
- Spot-conceal rather than covering everything.
- Press powder only on the T-zone, and leave the cheeks glowing.
Definition that doesn’t look like makeup
- Brows: brushed up and set, filled only where they’re sparse.
- Eyes: one soft matte shade a little deeper than your skin through the crease, and a satin shade on the lid.
- Lashes: tightline in brown, curl and apply waterproof mascara. Add a few cluster lashes at the outer corners if you like.
- Cheeks: cream blush in a “flush” shade (your cheek colour after a walk) and a touch of satin highlight.
- Lips: a nude one step deeper than your lips, lined and blotted so it lasts.
Natural makeup can vanish under flash. Take a flash photo once you’re done. If your eyes and lips look washed out, add a little more liner at the lash roots and go one shade deeper on the lip.
Frequently asked questions
Is natural bridal makeup long-lasting?
It can be. Long-wear foundation in thin layers, pressed powder on the T-zone, layered cream and powder blush and setting spray keep a natural look in place all day.
What’s the difference between natural and soft glam bridal makeup?
Soft glam adds more noticeable contour, a defined but blended eye and fuller lashes. Natural bridal makeup keeps definition close to your own features.
