The goal for bridesmaid makeup is cohesion. The bridal party should look like they belong in the same photo, and complement (never outshine) the bride. That doesn’t mean identical makeup. It means the same intensity and a shared colour story.

Agree on a shared look

  • Pick a level, such as natural, soft glam or glam, and keep everyone at it.
  • Choose a lip family that suits the dresses: rosy nudes for blush or neutral dresses, berry for jewel tones, coral for summer brights.
  • Each person adjusts the shade for her own skin tone within that family.
  • Keep lashes consistent: everyone in wispy lashes, or everyone in mascara only.

Bridesmaid makeup by eye colour

  • Brown eyes: bronze, warm brown, soft plum.
  • Blue eyes: peach, copper, champagne.
  • Green and hazel eyes: mauve, rose, soft burgundy.

The bridesmaid makeup bag

  • Your lipstick and liner
  • Blotting papers and pressed powder
  • Cotton buds and a mini micellar water
  • Lash glue
  • A spare of the bride’s lipstick (maid of honour)

Timing

If a makeup artist is doing the whole bridal party, allow 30–40 minutes per bridesmaid. The maid of honour usually goes first so she’s free to help the bride.

Frequently asked questions

Should bridesmaids have the same makeup as the bride?

No. They should match each other’s intensity and colour family, and stay a little softer than the bride.

Should bridesmaids wear false lashes?

Only if everyone does. Consistent lashes keep group photos cohesive.
