A red lip is one of the most classic, glamorous bridal looks there is. It photographs beautifully, brightens the teeth and needs very little else. The key is choosing the right red and making it last through a lot of kisses.

Choose the right red for your undertone

  • Cool undertones: blue-reds, cherry and raspberry. They also make teeth look whiter.
  • Warm undertones: tomato, brick and orange-reds.
  • Neutral undertones: true reds that sit between the two.
  • Deep skin: rich crimson, wine and deep blue-red look stunning.

Balance the rest of the face

  • Keep eyes soft and defined: neutral shadow, a fine liner and lashes. Let the lip be the star.
  • Use a soft, rosy blush rather than a bright one, so cheeks don’t compete with the lip.
  • Even out skin carefully. Red lipstick draws attention to redness around the nose and mouth.

Make it kiss-proof

  1. Prep the lips with balm, then blot it off completely.
  2. Line precisely with a matching red liner, then fill the whole lip with liner.
  3. Apply lipstick with a lip brush.
  4. Blot, dust powder through a single tissue ply, then apply a second layer.
  5. Clean the edges with a flat brush and a little concealer for a crisp line.

Carry the same lipstick and liner for touch-ups after the ceremony, after photos and after dinner. And warn your partner!
