Dry skin shows every flake and fine line under long-wear foundation and flash. Bridal makeup for dry skin is built on hydration and creamy textures, with powder only where you really need it.

Prep: the most important step

  • Exfoliate gently 2–3 days before the wedding, never the morning of.
  • On the day, use a hydrating mist or essence, a rich (but not greasy) moisturiser and a hydrating primer.
  • Give everything 10 minutes to absorb before foundation.
  • Prep the lips with balm and blot it off before lipstick.

The dry-skin bridal base

  • Choose a hydrating or radiant long-wear foundation. Heavy matte formulas cling to dry patches.
  • Apply it with a damp sponge, pressing rather than wiping.
  • Use a creamy concealer and tap it in with a warm fingertip.
  • Use cream blush and cream bronzer.
  • Powder only the centre of the face and under the eyes, very lightly, with a fine powder.
  • Finish with a hydrating setting spray.
Fixing a flake mid-day

Press a tiny dab of balm or moisturiser onto the dry patch with your fingertip, then tap a little foundation back over it. Don’t add powder on top.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best foundation for dry skin on a wedding day?

A hydrating or natural-radiant long-wear foundation, applied thinly over a hydrating primer.

Do I need setting powder if I have dry skin?

A little, yes, but only on the T-zone and under the eyes, so makeup doesn’t crease. Skip it on the cheeks.
